As the Lead at Bean, it’s my role to oversee the catering at café and food preparation for the Daily Bread. I’ve been in the role for over two years, and it’s been such a joy being able to be part of the team and be part of something with a greater purpose. Working in hospitality for most of my life, I feel that my experience has equipped me for this role at The Everyday Foundation. Often in this industry, it can be seen as just a job, but this is far more than that.
We connect with people and offer them a lifeline when things are tough. Cooking over 100 meals twice a week for the Daily Bread is a great honour. We get to practically serve people and everyone involved from the volunteers to the staff are aligned with the mission to show people that they are valued and that there is a whole community that cares for them. There are so many stories of the lives that we touch and as a parent, I’m especially moved when we get to help families with children and make a difference with a meal and conversation.
I love my days at The Bean and being able to chat with people and offer them a word of encouragement if they need. We are able to bless people if they’re going through a tough time with meals that we have ready to go for that purpose. We each have our individual roles at The Everyday Foundation that work together to make a difference in people’s lives every day and it’s a joy to be part of it.
