The Everyday Foundation, a local Sunshine Coast charity continues to make its mark on the community with its annual Hope Hampers appeal. In 2023 the drive delivered over 500 hampers to families and individuals on the Sunshine Coast facing food insecurity and financial hardship.
Each year Hope Hampers provides Christmas hampers to members of the Sunshine Coast community that may not be able to afford the essentials to provide for their families.
Karen Gullo, Operations Manager at The Everyday Foundation is passionate about the role that the organisation plays within the community and its ability to give hope during a time when it is most needed.
“It’s been amazing to see the community come together to support the cause. We were met with the highest number of nominations this year which speaks into the need that is out there. But I am pleased to say that we also had more donations and more volunteers than ever before, ensuring that we were able to meet the need,” notes Karen.
Recent research from Foodbank Australia has revealed that close to one in four Australians have experienced severe food insecurity in the past 12 months. This means that many have had to skip meals or go the whole day without food.
“Our heart with the Everyday Foundation is to meet people in their place of need”.
The hampers are filled with food, vouchers and presents. Families were also invited to come along and select presents with their kids.
Kylie Brampton, Volunteer and Distribution Lead, has been part of the initiative for the last five years.
“Being part of the distribution team, it’s wonderful seeing the joy and hope that we can give when we deliver the hampers. Likewise, the impact on the volunteers is also wonderful to witness. It’s a beautiful environment as we come together and wrap the gifts,” observes Kylie.
“It’s great to be part of something that is so genuine and authentic. We want to show people that there is a community that cares for them, and this initiative does that so well. I had a parent tear up and mention that this is the first gift she’s received in 20 years.”
The initiative provides many heart-warming moments for everyone involved and introduces people to the Everyday Foundation that has been running the event for the past 8 years.
With a number of programs such their low-cost food outlet, meal support kitchen and emergency relief support, the Foundation is there throughout the year to help ensure that no one on the Sunshine Coast goes hungry. Their mission, however, doesn’t stop there, as they work to help people break free from poverty, know their value and have a hope filled future.
